AdSense referral changes
I had been quite happy with Google AdSense referrals, but have been very disappointed since they introduced what I think they refer to as Referral 2.0. To make it worst, they announced a change in the referral conditions for AdSense. They announced that for AdSense publishers located in the North America, Latin America and Japan, if an AdSense publisher referred by AdSense publishers located in these 3 regions earn $5 within 180 days, the will no longer earn $5. If the referred publisher earned $100 within $100, they will only get $100 instead of $250. AdSense publishers in other regions will no longer be able to earn from AdSense referral. There must have been a huge storm of protests, including me, as about 50% of my traffic are from the United States of America (US) and I see no reason why I should be left out just because I don't reside in any of these regions. Then they changed the conditions again. The terms for earnings stay, but only AdSense publishers who reside in North America, Latin America and Japan will entitle you to earn from AdSense referral. That is a reduction and a change which I am sure many AdSense publishers, including me are not happy with the changes, and for me, very likely I will no longer put the referral links above the fold, the most valuable estate on the Web.Poor Referral performance
Since
they introduced AdSense 2.0 referrals, I have not changed anything. I
did not add any of the new referral products they introduced. Despite
that, I see all kinds of referral products in my referral reports. Below
is a screenshot of one of the worst report I got:
The report stated that there were a total of 7 clicks but zero earning (referral are what one may refer to as cost per action. A visitor just clicking on the referral link will not earn you anything. They need to follow that up with some specific action or actions before you get anything. Further, all those referral products I have never chosen and do not know how they got there.
